General & Geopolitics
What is CANZUK Outreach, how is it funded & where is it on the political spectrum?
CANZUK Outreach is a grassroots community working to foster closer ties between Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom through Our focus is on growing petitions, running ad campaigns and spreading the message through volunteer-led efforts.
We operate purely on donations offered by ordinary citizens like you & are not funded by any governments or other organisations. This helps to build trust and transparency regarding the nature of our work.
Although our volunteers and donors may have differing political views, CANZUK is a bipartisan proposal meaning its supported across the political spectrum and is not a uniquely right wing or left wing policy. All citizens in member nations benefit from the proposal, regardless of their political opinions.
Why Canada, Australia, New Zealand & the United Kingdom?
Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom have a history going back generations. All countries are united under King Charles III as their head-of-state, share similar legal and parliamentary systems and have very similar cultures. This provides a stable basis for further collaboration between like-minded countries.
Why not include the USA or the entire Commonwealth?
Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom have a shared history and culture going back generations, a shared primary language*, comparable cultures and similar geopolitical stances. These similarities would allow citizens of a CANZUK country to travel to any other CANZUK nation and be able to effectively integrate into their destination country. CANZUK countries all share similar economic development levels with a similar GDP-per-capita, labour standards and social welfare infrastructures. Other countries in the Commonwealth have vastly different levels of development and so including them in CANZUK would create unsustainable migration pressures.
Acting in unison, CANZUK countries can diversify their existing geopolitical relationships and develop infrastructure to become less dependant on other countries. The necessity for this has been highlighted recently with an increasingly unpredictable United States threatning to annex Canada. Although the United States will likely remain a close & very important ally to CANZUK, it has a unique culture and different legal and governing systems that aren’t shared across other CANZUK members. By diversifying relations and developing technology independently, CANZUK can complement the United State’s existing infrastructure during trade deals and military exercises, rather than being wholly reliant on it.
Both the United States and the member states of the Commonwealth of Nations remain important allies and partners to CANZUK. CANZUK does not aim to replace existing alliances or trade deals but rather to diversify. The possibility of inviting other nations to the confederation is not on the current proposal but could be considered in future.
*Some regions of CANZUK, such as Quebec, have a different primary language to English. This autonomy will be respected through the CANZUK proposal and these regions will not be required to give up their dialect to particiate. Citizens from other member nations visiting these areas for long-periods of time (such as to study or work) would be expected to have a limited working knowledge of the local language to respect the culture. Additional safeguards and autonomy on how CANZUK affects these regions could be established if necessay.
Would CANZUK isolate its members from allies like NATO, the EU, Five Eyes or the CPTPP?
No. CANZUK complements these alliances. CANZUK members keep all existing ties while gaining more bargaining power by acting as a bloc. All countries retain the right to choose and create their own additional trade policies external from CANZUK to ensure maximum freedom.
Would CANZUK antagonise Russia or China?
No. China & Russia already target members individually, through cyber attacks and other methods that have the potential to become more prominent in future. Acting together strengthens deterrence and resilience, making it harder for hostile countries to single out members without a joint-response from the bloc.
Is CANZUK a duplication of, or harmful for, the existing Five Eyes and CPTPP alliances?
No. CANZUK builds on these existing alliances: Five Eyes provides intelligence operations and the CPTPP provides trade opportunities. CANZUK unites movement, security, and economics for member nations. As part of this, it facillitates easier trade and joint intelligence operations to complement existing alliances, rather than replacing them.
Everday Life
How will this make my life better as a citizen, a worker, a student or business representative?
You could live, work, or study in four countries with a more streamlimed visa process. This provides more job and educational opportunities, allowing any student or worker to move between member countries as well as allowing businesses operating in CANZUK countries to send resources between countries easily. Wider job markets open up so if work or demand is scarce locally, a business could effectively scale up or scale down operations between all countries with ease.
A long-term consideration is controlled freedom of movement, however this is not an immediate priority due to migration being an ongoing domestic topic in CANZUK nations.
Could I move to Canada, Australia, or New Zealand easily?
Yes. Freedom of movement would allow visa-free relocation—similar to how EU citizens once had mobility, although this is a long-term consideration. Migration is an ongoing domestic topic in all CANZUK nations, so freedom of movement will have to be discussed and regulated to ensure it poses no significant concerns for citizens of member nations later down the line. If it was implemented overnight, it would cause significant unrest in the current climate, however a limited policy for students and workers in high-demand industries could be considered in the short-term.
Will prices go down?
Likely. Easier trade between CANZUK members cuts tariffs and bureaucracy, making imported food, wine, and tech cheaper. Additionally, it would be easier for companies and businesses to export products to other CANZUK nations by reducing paperwork, therefore benefitting local farms and factories in the process.
Will my pension or qualifications count abroad?
Yes. Mutual recognition is part of the CANZUK proposal, allowing your pension, degrees and professional licences to carry across the bloc.
Is CANZUK just for the wealthy?
No. Ordinary workers, small-businesses, students, and families would benefit the most from the freedom to move, trade, and work.
Freedom of movement is a long-term consideration due to migration being an ongoing domestic topic in CANZUK nations.
Addressing Criticisms & Concerns
Is CANZUK just the British Empire 2.0 or demands the loss of freedom and cultural identity?
No. CANZUK is based on strictly mutual cooperation with no overarching leader of the bloc. It aims to retain and celebrate the existing unique cultural identity of each of the member nation whilst providing security guarantees, economic benefits and labour opportunities to all involved. CANZUK is unlikely to have a captial city, would not become a single country, adopt a new currency or become one united culture as this would antagonise the confederation and undermine the identity of all involved. CANZUK is a forward-looking confederation that aims to facilitate like-minded countries to collaborate as a bloc, rather than a proposal for a new country.
Is CANZUK racist?
No. All CANZUK nations have diverse populations and the benefits are available to all citizens without discrimination. Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom already share similarities culturally and in their legal and parliamentary systems. CANZUK aims to build on these ties and work constructively non-member nations, rather than exluding them.
Will the distance between member countries be problematic?
Its unlikely. In 2024, 40% of the combined total GDP of CANZUK nations is digital services that transcend distances. Sectors like AI, technology, finances and education partnerships thrive remotely. Online services operating offices in all CANZUK countries would have 24 hours of daylight, providing massive incentives for buisnesses to move to member nations, brining job opportunities to the local area.
Data has shown an increase in trade between member nations in recent years, demonstrating a demand for trade, despite the distances involved. Removing barriers and tariffs would strengthen the incentives, therefore benefitting local industries who can export resources with lower costs.
Is this just a “new EU” in disguise?
No. Unlike the EU, CANZUK doesn’t involve a single currency, parliament, or overriding bureaucracy. It’s not a federation. CANZUK nations all share the same primary language which reduces barriers for cooperation and only consist of 4 nations as opposed to the 27 that make up the EU, meaning that agreements and decisions could be made quicker because they require less administration.
Will brain drain hurt smaller members like New Zealand?
Flows goes both ways. Skilled workers may leave, but others will arrive, balancing out shortages. Companies already existing in other CANZUK nations may choose to expand operations using the benefits provided to open offices in other member nations, brining job opportunities to the local area.
Does CANZUK ignore countries and regions like India, South Africa, or the Caribbean?
No. CANZUK doesn’t block wider Commonwealth ties. Success could strengthen future cooperation with them.
